16 month old suddenly wants to feed all night (and several times a day too). Why?

DD2 was exclusively breastfed, started solids with no problems at 6 months. At 8ish months she suddenly refused to feed at all during the day but still wanted to feed twice in the night and on waking.

I thought it was the beginning of the end so introduced formula in the day.

We had several months of bottles in the day, a couple of feeds at night and things were fine.

Then suddenly a few of months ago around the time she started walking she started looking to feed in the day too. I was a bit surprised but went along with it.

Now she is constantly demanding the boob even when I know she isn't hungry. I occasionally manage to distract her but usually she gets very cross if I refuse and starts pulling at my clothes.

We are co-sleeping and suddenly she just want to be on the breast all night. She isn't really feeding and her latch is not good. I can't doze off beside her when she is feeding as she often clamps down as she dozes off so I can't relax.

I am exhausted and getting fed up.

I don't know if anyone can advise me on how to take control of the situation.

I don't want to force her to wean but she must feed around 12 times in 24 hours and I am getting exhausted and fed up.

Any ideas on what is going on or how to deal with it appreciated.

Thanks

Hi, I personally don't have any answers for you, but I know a lady who will. She's the group leader of the La Leche League group I attended for a while after my 2nd DC. Hazel Todhunter - tel. 01565 621087. She won't mind a random phone call and I'm sure she'll have some useful info and advice. She's about 60 odd and fed her 4 children till they self weaned and she's very chilled out about child rearing in general. She's based in Knutsford, Cheshire.

Or alternitvely you could find your local group on the LLL web site.
Take care,
