For those who used domperidone, fenugreek

Hi, I am trying to buy more time while I am sorting out DS's latch and up my milk supply. An NCT councellor has suggested domperidone which my GP has prescribed but at a much lower dose than suggested by Jack Newman (3 tablets a day instead of 9), so I am supplementing with over the counter Motillium. I have just added them to fenugreek capsules from H&B that I've been taking for approximately a month. Until the beginning of this week DS was growing steadily and didn't have problems with nappies, yellow stools and all. Since I started using domperidone he also looked happier and more settled. But now he is fussing at the breast and his poos has gone bright green on Monday and he started waking up earlier than usual before the feeds. Since than I've been expressing milk before each feed and trying to express supposedly fatter milk after each feed for the next one. It didn't help hugely though his poo is still not terribly yellow. Has anybody come across such reaction to either of supplements? Do I just stop both or wean myself gradually?
Many thanks.

Hi Karlu,
glad to hear you're hanging in there

I've only used fenugreek on its own so can't really advise. Do you think that its mixing the domperidone and the feungreek together which is causing the problem?

Sure someone with more knowledge will be along soon.

really not an expert but it might be the drugs are making you make too much milk? bright green poo can be a sign of oversupply i think - the less fatty milk from a very full breast moves through the stomach and gut much quicker... so the baby gets hungry quicker too. this is where my science gets a little hazy . i had it with ds and actually had to decrease my supply slightly by block feeding which turned his poo yellow again.

maybe all three drugs is too much. can you just stop taking them, or one, and then the other?

if he was gaining weight steadily and had yellow pooey nappies why were you prescribed a drug for supply issues in the first place ? or did he start gaining after the domeridone, in which case that might be fine without the fenugreek and motilium.

if he is fussing at one breast, he might want the other one, particularly if it is emptier, and therefore fattier milk.

i've also read on here that fattier milk is pretty hard to express because it is thicker, cream through an pump is more difficult than waterier milk iyswim. the baby sucking would be the most efficient at getting at it.

Just lost my message. V annoying

I have pretty low supply so have taken dom with both my children. 160mg at top dose. Not sure green poo is indicative of a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance in all cases, my son had this and I'm pretty sure I never had an excess supply. I did look on here and it seemed to be something that some babies just have from time to time. It could be, but it's not definite.

If you don't have a profound supply issue, you could try weaning off the dom. I would most definitely not stop abruptly. I have always dropped 1 pill a week and watched to see any drop in supply, you could try going a little faster, dropping 1 every 3-4 days.

Fenugreek never did anything for me. I did take it at the same time as the dom but it didn't coincide with the green poos. that I would feel more comfortable stopping abruptly if you are concerned. Maybe wean down over a week - btw apparently if you don't smell like maple syrup by the time you're on 9-12 capsules a day it's not doing anything for you.

Good luck. I wouldn't worry too much about the green poos unless he's miserable as well.

Btw teething can generate slimy poos - might it be that?

that's true, i'm sure tiktok has said green poo is actually on normal spectrum... there is masses of info on here if you did an advanced search... hope it gets sorted ;-)
