newbie mum: set alarm for bottle night feeds?

My DS1 is 3 weeks old and I changed to formula feeding around 10 days ago.

The question is, and it might sound silly - I have been setting my alarm (on silent vibrate!!) for 3 hours since his last feed, so I can be sure I have a bottle ready for him. More often than not he is just waking up or already awake and rooting around. I have been going with the 'don't wake the baby' option, unless it's more than 4 hours.

I know he isn't on a schedule but I just thought this was the right thing to do - what do others do? Does this sound crazy?

Oh Hun, he'll wake you when he needs feeding. Dont deprive yourself of badly needed sleep by setting alarms! It wont do him any harm to whinge for a bit before his bottle is ready. Use the time its heating to change his nappy, cuddle him etc.

they will take bottle at room temp.
Feed on demand, let them ask for it, get some sleep

use the cartons of ready made formula at room temperature? Costs more but might make the night feeds less stressful.

And agree that you don't need to worry about waking him so much in the night. In fact I've just peeked at the bf diary I kept after I had dd from where I wrote down every single feed for the first 2 months and she often had gaps of 4/5 hours between bf feeds at night time.

[waves to everyone]
thanks so much for your advice being a first timer is extremely kindof stressful and I can honestly say mumsnet has been my saviour throughout my pg and now beyond.
Night night everyone away to catch up on some Zzzzzzz's
