Penicillin/Augmentin and breast feeding?

I've been prescribed Augmentin Co-amoxiclav (amoxicillin and clavulanic acid). The doctor said it was OK to breastfeed, but 8.5 month old DD has not been herself from 4 hours after i started taking the tablets and I wonder if it is related?

I took one tablet at 1pm and one at 5pm. I fed at 2, 5 and 6.30pm. She started grizzling at 5 ish and howled for 45 minutes after bedtime feed, which she never does.

I guess the drugs pass to the baby a bit, but has anyone experienced something similar?

Thanks

What are you on Antibiotics for? Could it be that your DD is under the weather too?

You can also ask your pharmacist regarding the antibiotics and affect on breastfeeding.

I had this when breastfeeding DD years back, I remember having similar problems, in that it caused colic.........I spoke with our chemist & he told me that it does pass into breast milk, but is not usually harmful to the baby, though can in some cases cause usual side effects in baby too, most likely wind & bloating

if your worried, speak with your chemist, I usually find them much better on drug advice, & maybe see your out of hours Dr for an alternative anti B....... even if the effects are minor in baby, its not exactly going to help you get well, if DD is unsettled & grisly....good luck
