Will be stopping bf completely next month. Been winding it down for a while, just left with pre-bedtime feed (although he still tries his luck all day....)

Rang the BFN helpline for some advice on stopping and was told to explain to DS that I wouldn't be feeding him any more. Any ideas on what to say? Should I tell him that my boobs are sore/ not working/ have run out of milk?

I should be able to come up with this by myself, I know but I'm a bit stumped. I'd be grateful for any ideas/ advice.

Thanks.

Why not instead of focussing on what won't be happening, focus on what will ie ds, now you're such a big boy shall we go out and buy you a special new cup so that you can have warm cow's milk before bed? And shall we decide where to keep it in the cupboard? And shall we get it out at the same time as we get your books out?

I think you do have to mention in the run up, probably for the last few days or so that soon he'll be having bedtime milk in a cup, two more nights, one more feed, say bye to the milk etc but keep fixed on all the lovely things that will replace it.

I still bfeed dd once a day in a morning but that was how we dropped the bedtime feed and she was fine with it. She was around 2 at the time.

Great idea about the cup, thanks.
I have a hard time believing that he'll understand tbh. I can see a bit of preparation would make it less of a shock but he doesn't really seem to have any concept of future events just yet. Everything is in the present for him.
