Struggling to produce enough milk

Can anyone help? My baby is 14 weeks old and at first I was producing heaps of milk, she was gaining weight rapidly and doing really well. In the last 6-4 weeks my milk has reduced considerably, she only put on 3oz in last 4 weeks!!! I started taking cerazette 5 weeks ago and wondering if there is a conection? Any advice on how to help boost milk quantity would be much appreciated.

I hope someone more competent comes soon but I did have supply issues for both my DC from the start. For DS, I ended up having to take domperidone for months but this is the last resort I think.
I do seem to remember that some pills do have an effect on supply though...

Hi dont worry sure someone can help!

Has she dropped dramatically on the centile chart?

How do you know your milk has reduced? Are your boobs not feeling as "full" if so ime this isnt a reduction of milk its just boobs ajusting and making what you need not an excess like they do in the early days.

If you are worried try not to do too much in the next few days, drink plenty and make sure you are eating right! Porridge is supposed to help.

Also there are these.

Have you tried one of the BF helplines? I used La Leche League a few times, always v knowledgeable and helpful but they're prob all just as good. Details here
I'm sure she's fine, 3oz in 4 weeks doesn't sound too bad to me but it's all relative I spose. Try the helplines, I'm sure they'll be able to reassure you that all is well.

why do you think your milk has reduced?

your supply settles a lot after the first 3 months IME

you can take domperidone and fenugreek - if you search the archives on here there are plenty of threads on this topic

other things to boost your supply is as much feeding as possible - co-sleep and skin to skin when you can, as well as offering multiple sides if necessary

BF do plateau at times - is she thriving and healthy otherwise? Weeing and pooing well?

has she been weighed on the same scales each time?

Hi ellen,
has your baby reduced the number of feeds for your baby? Perhaps you are feeding less in the night and this is affecting your supply?

I know the mini pill is not supposed to affect milk supply, but anecdotally, women have reported this happening.

If you can increase the number of feeds, then this would obviously increase your supply.

Give the fenugreek a try too- there's a whole section on kellymom on other things you can try to increase supply.

as others have said, it may not be low milk supply at all...
however, if it were, the best way to increase supply is feeding more, with no need for remedies, dietary changes or anything
