6 months and counting - thank you MN

I reached a massive milestone today and just wanted to post a quick message of thanks.

DD is 6 months old tomorrow on Mothers Day which will make it extra special and we have passed the target I set for myself when she was born - to BF for 6 months.

Barely a day has gone by where I havent been on MN for advice. You guys have got me through three ops for mastitis, thrush, bad latch, bleeding nipples the lot.

She's currently having a growth spurt and hasnt slept through for 6 weeks but stuff it. I've dealt with snooty HV and lots of bad advice but everyone who has helped me on MN has been great.

Massive thank you to you all. I'm going to keep going for as long as possible too. I never knew a year ago that BF went beyond 1yo, so thats my next goal.

Take a bow, you lot rock

SoH, that's amazing. If I get anywhere close to it, it would be great.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 14/03/2010 12:05

Good for you!!

I'm on week 7 - although she had a few formula top-ups in the first couple of weeks until I got my supply up with expressing - would it still count?!

YanknCock · 14/03/2010 18:34

Yayyy! DS (6.5 mos) was EBF till 6 months, apart from a slight faltering due to rubbish HV advice to wean at 5 months. After one try of rice and one try of mushed carrot, I came on MN and read the weaning section, talked to a few people, and decided to ignore the HV.

Now started BLW and still breastfeeding. At the start I only cared about getting to 6 months, but now I'm aiming for at least a year and much more open to continuing longer--something that would never have happened without MN.

I've got 2 pregnant friends who both really want to breastfeed and I recommended MN to them. I think they have both got more advice out of 15 minutes on here than they got in the 2 hour class at the hospital.

I got to six months too, on Saturday! No intention of stopping, either.

I am a bit sad about one thing. Anyone who has been on this thread a lot in the last six months might remember some of my agonising about my DS who is small small small - bumping along between the 0.4 and 2 centiles - having been born three weeks before due date. Because we've started weaning, I got into a bit of a state about his weight and the likelihood that it would drop a bit because he'd fill up on less nutritious fruit and vegetables. I started giving him a top-up twice a day of 150ml of formula. (He was feeding around nine times a day so expressing was not an option even if I had wanted to.) In two weeks, he put on two pounds and went up half a centile. He seems to be continuing the same way, getting rounder and chubbier every day. I feel as if I should have done it sooner, in one way, and in another that I wish I hadn't done it at all, though it's obviously what he's needed all along. The only thing that cheers me up (apart from the weight gain, obv) is that he refuses to see them as anything but a top-up and still demands to be fed by me on his usual schedule - just a bit less in the evenings and at night! We're down to about seven feeds a day, so he's not exactly skimping on the bf.

I wonder if he was very good at judging how much he needed to the ounce, so didn't put on any fat but did get longer and put on muscle and stay just about in touch with his curve... or if my breastmilk was just a bit lacking in fat. Or if he was just about to plump up anyway and the formula is a red herring. [idle musing]

Anyway, I couldn't have got this far without MN, and I am so glad it exists too.

Will hit 6 months of bf my twins on Friday.

Exclusively till 24weeks when DT1 pulled toast off my plate and shoved it in his mouth.

Am also very

tummytime · 17/03/2010 16:27

Thank you MN from me too. DS now over 5 months and still ebf. Wouldn't actually have thought about trying to bf DS after difficulties with DD if it hadn't been for MN so yay! Congrats namechange
