Hi, DS is almost 7 weeks no feeding issues so far. the last couple of days ive been ill with a headcold and he has been super clingy and cluster feedig (all day yesterday). def taking its toll on me and im shattered but adamant not to quit.....

i just noticed my toe infection is back all pussy but were seeing gp for 6 week check tommoorow so should i wait to see gp for antibiotics? its not a bad infection and is it safe to carry on feeding DS? I hate the thought of needing to use formula?

No reason to stop bf.

You're fine to carry on feeding. The GP will presumably give you antibiotics (they have before?) just ask them to give you one that's more compatible with breastfeeding.

And if they don't, and just give you whatever one, and tell you to stop breastfeeding, come on here, and we'll look it up and tell you it'll be ok.

You're doing really well, hang in there. Is the toe infection happening because you're run down? Are there things you can cut back on, or get extra help in for?

Yes it's fine to carry on bfing, many of us have taken antibiotics while bfing.

thanks everyone. the toe infection is from my ongoing ingrowing toe nail which they wont remove till im expressing as they said the drugs will affect my milk, i only express 1 bottle a day right now for dh to feed in middle of the night.
Im happy to keep bf as we both enjoy all the cuddle time and nothing more satifying to me looking at his podgy little thighs knowing its all from me even if he has discovered his hands now ouch lol

at them refusing to do the op. What drugs are they talking about giving you? How long do they think you will need to stop BFing for?

There are versions of most drugs that are compatible with breastfeeding.

hurrydownthechimneytonight · 10/03/2010 08:41

well they want to remove the entire nail and i think its just aneasthetic, but i dont understand why they wont do as when i went to dentist during pregnancy they gave me aneasthetics??

sorry for poor spelling! They said they would only do if i was bottle feeding as it would affect my milk but there is no way ds will take a bottle for however long they want as he only takes 1 bottle a day.

I'm not a medic and therefore can't really comment on medical advice.

Having said that......you can point out the anomaly of refusing to remove a nail because of you breastfeeding to the docs. Are you going to be unconscious for days, or something? Women breastfeed immediately after coming round from GA after a section...when the anaesthetic is out of your system (ie, you are conscious) it is out of your milk.

You'll probably have a local anaesthetic anyway. The clue is in the name - it acts on the toe only, is not systemic, and will get nowhere near your milk.

You can get good info on drugs and anaesthesia and breastfeeding from www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk which you can there share with your doctor.
