Last few nights ds has woken at 3am (ish) as usual for his night feed but by the time I've made his bottle and come back upstairs he's gone back to sleep but woken and done the same again at half 4 ish and half 5 ish before waking properly at 6ish being properly hungry (ie doing his hungry cry and not settling till he's got his bottle) so I've given him his bottle then ....

Any suggestions as to what I should be doing? Should I have just fed him at 3 When he woke the first time???
Is he just waking at 3 out of habit??

Do you offer him the bottle at 3am or leave him to sleep? I think at 5 weeks he'll still be hungry at night. If he'll have his milk at 3am he might stop the other wakings.

Ps I wouldn't worry about waking out of habit at 5 weeks. My dsis is ff her ds and he dropped his night feeds on his own, started waking again a few months later and now sleeps through again at 7 months. They change all the time.

No didnt try him with his bottle at 3 will do that tonight I think... just didn't think I should wake him once he'd settled himself but do feel like he should be having something then.... God this mummy lark is confusing, wonderful but confusing!!!!

Yes it is - I've posted lots of feeding questions on here over the last 12 months. I've always got something I want to ask on here!

Good luck - let me know how it goes tonight!

Hi MrsMc82,

Is your DS having a dreamfeed at 10pm-ish? If so, I don't think it is unreasonable for your LO to not need the 3am feed, especially if he is not staying awake to be fed. By 6.5 weeks my DS had dropped the feed in the middle of the night and was going from 11pm - 6.30/7am.

Personally, if your DS is resettling at 3am - great! The fact he is already learning to do this is brilliant. However, he may well wake later in the morning with his 'hungry' cry, which you mentioned, and I would feed him then. THis way, he should start to stretch towards having no bottle in the night and having his first bottle at 7am in a few weeks time - hooray!

Good luck with whatever you decide to do
