What happens to your boob size once you've been breastfeeding for a while?

Perhaps a stupid question, but I was wondering whether people have found their boobs got smaller/reverted back to normal size at some point whilst breastfeeding? I hate the ample size of my chest at the best of times, but (as I'm feeding DD2 right now), I'm really struggling. Having said that, I'd love to continue beyond 6 months and wondered whether I stand a chance of my boobs going back to a roughly 'normal' size at any point whilse bfeeding?

With all of mine my boobs stayed the same size from about 2m. Which was about 2 cupsizes bigger than pre-rpegnant. When I stopped bfing they went down only one size, and it didn't make any difference whether I'd fed for 5m or 3y.

assumetheposition · 27/02/2010 21:50

I have been feeding for 12 months and I think my boobs have been normal size for a while.

I'm terrified about what will happen to them when I stop

PrettyCandles · 27/02/2010 21:51

BTW where did you get your feeding bras from? It could be that you're not wearing the best bra for your size, and a better-fitting bra could help you feel much more comfortable.

MarionCole · 27/02/2010 21:54

Pre-pregnancy I was 32B

While I was feeding (for 12 months) I was 32E

Once I stopped I dropped down to 32DD.

OhFuck · 27/02/2010 21:54

I think mine went back to pre-baby size around 7 months (as I went back to work so feeds dropped off a fair bit). I continued to feed until DS was over 2 and when he eventually self-weaned I only noticed because in the space of a week my boobs had become deflated fried eggs.

I'm told they may firm up again a bit over the years though, apparently a benefit of BFing.

I'm pregnant again and 11 weeks in they're mahoosive.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 27/02/2010 21:55

I've been Bfing my Ds now for 17mths and since I lost my pregnancy weight, around the time he was 6mths old, I can say my breasts are the same size that they were pre-pregnancy + a bit saggier and with a few more stretch marks but I know that that is to do with pregnancy and weight gain rather than BFing alone.

Have you lost your baby weight yet? Usually your supply settles down by the time your baby is 5-6mths old, sometimes earlier and your breasts should revert back to normal.

I've recently discovered I'm pregnant again and my breast have taken a fuller appearence but they havn't gone up a size yet!

preggersplayspop · 27/02/2010 21:56

I've been breastfeedng now for nearly 3 years and my boobs are probably one size larger than before I was feeding (though its a bit hard to remember now!).

I think my boobs settled down to a normalish size again when the baby was about 3 months old.

I am so looking forward to investing in some lovely bras when I finally stop feeding forever. I dream of underwired and push up bras!

Georgimama · 27/02/2010 21:57

I BF Ds for nearly 2 years. I was a 24C before I got pregnant and one year after stopping BFing, I am a 34C. My boobs look, frankly, exactly the same as they did 5 years ago. They didn't when DS was 6 months old, but they do now.

Georgimama · 27/02/2010 21:58

24C?

Obviously not. Typo.

34C before hand. 34C afterwards.

hellymelly · 27/02/2010 22:04

Mine are two-three cup sizes above my pre-preg size, but I am fatter too so that may be a factor.I haven't stopped feeding yet,I've been feeding for over five years (one baby and then the next)so I don't know what will happen then. They were much bigger for the first few months of feeding.

dontrunwithscissors · 27/02/2010 22:07

So there's hope for me yet, then? Thanks for the replies. I was a 32E before getting pregnant with DD1. I fed her for 5m. I was a 32F before falling pregnant with DD2. She's 5 weeks old and I'm currently a 36H (yes, I'd say my feeding bras are a good fit.) I've always been desparately embarassed by my large boobs, so I'm struggling a bit with the size of them now. BUT I hadn't thought about all the extra weight I'm carrying (2.5 stone, to be exact ). I reckon a good stone of that is on my chest! I'd love to carry on feeding DD2 beyond the 5 months I managed last time - more motivation for me to lose the flab.

I bf'd both my dc for 14 months, was up to 34GG/H at the end of pg, but I returned to "normal" (F cup) as I lost weight.

DrivenToDistraction · 27/02/2010 22:29

Well, DS is 9 months and still feeds loads, I've been back in my normal size (34F) since 5 or 6 months.

Once you stop being regularly engorged you can war a very well fitting underwired bra. being ample of nork you wont need BF bras, you can just buy normal bras with a wee bit of stretch and floop the breast out IYSWIM.

heQet · 27/02/2010 22:31

I can tell you what happens to your boobs after you're done breastfeeding.

You can tuck them into your knickers.

assumetheposition · 27/02/2010 22:34

Although I do know that it's pregnancy that does for your boobs rather than breastfeeding - I can't shake Lynette from Desperate Housewives observation that 'your boobs will look like 2 balloons found behind the sofa left over from a party a week ago.'

Georgimama · 28/02/2010 07:13

How old are you OP? I have a feeling that age is another factor - my boobs will head south, but their current bouyancy is probably helped by the fact I was only 28 when BFing. And height - 32E is perfectly respectable but not that large which will probably also help.

theboobmeister · 28/02/2010 10:29

By the time DD was 2 (and still BF), mine were pretty much exactly what they were like before getting pregnant.

belgo · 28/02/2010 10:34

I've bf on and off for the past four/five years and with each baby they were initially bigger but after about a year they are back to their normal size, even though I am still bfing.

Igglybuff · 28/02/2010 12:29

heQet that made me laugh and cry at the same time.

heQet · 28/02/2010 12:54

Yup. That's pretty much what I do when I tuck them into my knickers.

Or fling them round my neck in the winter, in lieu of a scarf.

Igglybuff · 28/02/2010 15:04

heQet. I fear mine are going that way. I'll soon be rolling them up get them in my bra.

devilsadvocaat · 28/02/2010 15:17

iggly, mine were ok after i finished feeding ds1 at 8 mos. softer but not saggy. i did find that my boobs did not 'sit' properly in many styles eg plunge. it wasn't as bad as i thought.

am not holding out any hope this time round tho...

Igglybuff · 28/02/2010 15:27

devils I agree on the sitting thing. They've really changed but I think pregnancy did it.

I've got my fingers crossed that they'll retain some fullness once I stop - whenever that is!

dontrunwithscissors · 28/02/2010 16:30

Georgiemama - i'm 34 and 5ft 5in (had DD1 at 31). I was pleasantly surprised by how perky they were when i finished feeding dd1 (probably helped by the fact they stayed a size bigger.) It will be interesting to see if they stay that way once dd2 is finished with them . I just hope they don't stick at being a size bigger this time around.

I was 30E pre preg and 32 H at biggest.now a 30G or 32 FF and I wear an underwired bra with a lower cut at the front and just pull it aside,no probs.
