BF 6 month old - go with the flow or not?

Hi - my DS is EBF and is now just over 6 months. We are trying baby led weaning and so far he's playing with food but not eating any. We've co-slept most of the time and am worried now whether I need to try and change his sleep habits so that he will sleep a) in the cot on his own and b) be settled by people other than me and go to sleep at night without having to feed to sleep.

At the moment he tends not to settle well after his 'final' feed at around 6.45pm. He falls asleep on the breast and often wakes again 30 mins or so later. Quite often he'll then be wide awake for a while and will need more time at the breast before going to sleep again later in the evening, by around 8.45pm.

WHen I go to bed he goes to sleep alongside me half in the cot which I've now tied on to the side of our bed with the side off! Then during the night he wakes 2/3 times for a feed and then we drop off again.

So it's not a nightmare scenario. But I would like to be able to go out for a couple of hours in the evening, after feeding him, knowing that someone else could be with him.

Is he likely to be hungry when he has these short-spaced feeds in the evening or is it for comfort?

During the day he will now fall asleep in the pram on his own even if it's an hour or two since a feed.

I feel like I'm not doing v. well with DS (my 3rd baby) as he must not be getting enough calories during the day?

Just to add, whenever dh tries to settle him in the evening baby DS gets v. distressed and cries until I come and get him
