Do you know of any sleeping tablets that can be taken while breastfeeding?

Hello

I am exhausted. I am averaging 4-5 hrs sleep a night and am just shattered. My little one (5 months old this week) goes to bed 7:30 ish, dream feeds at 11 and then feeds around 3ish, then wakes up bright and smiley at 6.

I have tried going to bed at 10 but I am just lying there awake until 1 sometimes, it is misery. I have a history of insomnia and have temazepam for when it gets very bad but I know I can't use this when I am breastfeeding. I wonder if anyone has any experience of any of the herbal sleep tablets taken while breastfeeding? I don't mind feeding her in the night at all but I am beyond shattered and look like death and just a couple of night getting to sleep at a decent time would make the world of difference.

I have had sleep issues all my life, its a real bugger.

Poor you willowstar, grim. I know how you feel, I get insomnia too. it's horrid. have you tried cutting out all caffeine other than one cup in the morning? try camomile tea? yoga breathing? self hypnosis? you can get relaxation tapes at the library for free.
Any chance your DP could get up at 6am at least a few days a week and feed with expressed milk? If you're like me it's much easier to lie in than get off to sleep. My DP did this for me when I was at the end of what I could endure.
Otherwise - it is ok to use temazepam when breast feeding. www.ukmicentral.nhs.uk/drugpreg/qrg_p1.asp under benzodiazepines. But would you be ok to wake up for the 3am feed?
wishing you well
