Breastfeeding a toddler whilst pregnant

I am still breastfeeding my 2.5 year old whilst pregnant. Is there any health issues for the unborn child doing this? How do you easily stop a toddler from having his breastmilk?

hi, i too breastfed ds1 whilst pregnant with dd. ds1 was 18months when dd was born. Not sure about health implications for the unborn child to be honest and my hv certainly never made any mention of any.

My experience with getting ds1 of the breast was actually not as hard as i thought it would be. It probably helped that he was only feeding first thing in the morning too! In the last two weeks of my pregnancy, I never offered the breast to him, but I didnt refuse if he asked for it either, and the day before dd was born he had his last feed. He did however ask for the breast again when dd was about 2weeks old, mainly because I think he thought he had been replaced iyswim, but he only asked once. And my hv said that it was fine for him to give him it if he asked, but to offer the side that dd had last fed on so that he wasnt taking all the milk that should be for her.

I would hazzard a guess that age may play an important factor in how your toddler takes all this. So not sure if my approach would work with an older toddler or not, hopefully someone may be able to come up with another approach!

Good luck!

I'm 5 months pregnant and breastfeeding DS2. Like lenin it is still quite uncomfortable (although not as bad as the first trimester) but we are down to morning and night and that has really helped. The discomfort gave me the strength to persist - we limited feed lengths, and I always offered food and drink first when he asked for milk. It has been reasonably stress free.

As I understand it, there are no issues for a normal healthy pregnancy.
