I've got severe D&V - am I alright to still bf?

Bit late now anyway - I started with the vomiting and diarrhoea last night and I have continued to breastfeed my 4m baby.

Is this bad? Will he get it?

No, breastfeeding will help protect him. You're doing all the right stuff. Drink whatever you feel like, eat whatever tempts. Poor you!

Better to bf him than anything else. He will get antibodies in the bm to help him fight it off.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

I am pretty sure he will be fine (and if he does get it is likely to get it more lightly due to you BF him).

Make sure you are being looked after though as bf will mean that more fluids are coming out of you.

Thanks so much. Am weeping with relief, because I feel all emotional and ill!

Really appreciate your nice replies.

lots of fluids- you can buy rehydrating sachets from the chemist and they work really well.

I had the nasty bug last weekend and I'm feeding my 9mo twins - I just washed my hands thoroughly before each feed and tried not to handle them too much. If you can get someone to help as much as possible with other aspects of baby care that would help, but otherwise just be as careful as you can - it's the contact that might pass on the virus not your milk, which may actually stop your baby from getting it too. One twin is completely healthy, the other had diarrhea, but nowhere near as bad as me. Hope you feel better soon.
