This was 18 years ago for my DD but I recall wondering how I would ever get her off the breast. I think it was just being firm and using distraction and tempting alternatives in the end.

I HAVE A GIRL GOING ON 3 IN MARCH AND UNTIL 2 WEEKS AGO I HAD NO PEACE AT BEDTIME AS SHE ALWAYS WANTED TO FEED ,AND SHE WOULD HAVE ALITTLE PROD DURING THE DAY TOO WHEN TIRED . I DID TRY TO TELL HER NOT TO DO IT IN PUBLIC THOUGH. WAS WONDERING WHEN IF EVER SHE WOULD STOP AS SHE PASSED THE AGE WHEN THEY SAY WOULD NATURALLY STOP. SADLY AS 1 WAS HOSPITALIZED FOR TEN DAYS [HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN PUTTING OFF OP AS BREASTFEEDING]EM HAD NO CHOICE AS SEPARATED FROM ME AND MILK ALL GONE NOW . SHE HAS ASKED ONCE OR TWICE BUT ACCEPTED IT QUITE EASILY AND I CAN NOW GET HER TO TAKE HER MILKIES FROM BEAKER ,HAD MY SISTER A BIT WORRIED THOUGH AS GIVING HER FEW PRODS!STILL A BIT SAD NOW ALL OVER BUT WE STILL HAVE LOVELY CLOSE BOND AND SHE STILL CALLS ME HER BEST FRIEND [SMILE]

I also want to stop, but mine hates normal milk, and won't use bottle or dummy for comfort at night...what I need is a way to get him to sleep without it.

Hope you don't mind me tagging on.

Same here. i think my 2 yr old dd is addicted to bm. don't know how to stop now either, help!

Getting pg helped with my 2 year old - she didn't like the taste for a week which gave a good window of opportuntiy. But I see you have a 6mo so I'm guessing this isn't an option.

When she asks for it now I tell her she is a big girl, mummy milk is for babies. She seems to have accepted this without distress, but she does love cows milk which is a bonus. We got her a 'cow cup' which has a black and white pattern on it and she loves that as an alterantive. Everytime she sees my boobies she tells me 'baby needs eat booboo'

Good luck, hope you are able to come to an agreement with her soon.

Yes new routines - DD is now in her own bed in her own room (thank god just moved to 2bed) and that has helped too I think - DH normally takes her to bed and she has a story and a song which she really likes (pre weaning often suckled to sleep). If she does ask its in the morning because I often (out of laziness) bring her in with us if she wakes up super early.
