SIL is mix feeding nearly 3 wo nephew. HV has adviced to put him on one side for 10 minutes then to the other side so she doesn't get 'lopsided'
I thought that you should keep baby on one side within a certain period thats a bit longer than that-until the breast is drained.

Don't want to advise her of the wrong thing, so any help would be great

It's not got much to do with the clock, though, WhatnotHot.

Baby needs to stay on side one until he shows by his behaviour he's had enough for the moment. Then you offer the second side when he seems to show interest. Start on that second side next time.

You cannot drain the breast.

Mixed feeding at 3 weeks usually leads to full formula feeding - not always, I know, but in most cases. She may not be aware of that.

Thanks Tiktok, so when he's had enough, say if it was after 5 min-then she should burp him etc and if he seems to need it again a few mins later but him on opp?
Sorry if I seem to be pinikity, just want to get facts right for her!

She can learn to judge what feels right for her and her baby, WhatnotHot....5 mins might not be enough for some.

To be honest, none of this is likely to have anything like the impact on her bf that mixed feeding has - mixed feeding at 3 weeks is almost always bad news for bf

Tiktok-Thanks. I know, but I've tried really hard not to impose my views on her regarding it, proffessinals have told her she can do both...will mention it later and see if i can encourage her to cut the bottles down gradually. Thanks for your help
