Sterilisers - How long do they last??

This should have gone in products but thought I would get more answers here.

I have a Tommee Tippee steam steriliser that is about 18 months old. It hasnt been used for over 6 months and I didnt descale it before we put it away

Dc2 is due next week and although I want to to breast feed I think it will come in handy for dummies, bottles for expressed milk etc.

Will it still work properly if I clean it up and de scale it now? Or, is it worth just buying a new one?? Thanks.

I had an avent electric steam sterliser and it worked for 12 months when i had ds, I de-scaled it (almost) regularly and cleaned it before it was put away. Then it worked for another 12 months when I had dd. Now it has a new home via freecycle.

Give it a clean and see how it goes.

I'm interested to hear the answer to your question too mama2moo. Mine has been packed away for 4 years, also not descaled before put away! BTW, Mothercare have Tommee Tippee sterilisers half price at the moment.

Asda have a lot of them too in the Baby Event for half price.

They also have the TT manual breast pumps for £10, down from £25.

Just to say you don't need to sterilise anything to do with breastmilk.

I think I will try to de scale mine and test it on dd's bottles. I guess if the bottles are boiling hot then it works??

Dp is refusing to let me buy another one!! I can see his point but they are £20 at the mo.

I will de scale it tomorrow and let you know...
