Do i need to go cold-turkey on breast feeds or is there a nice way to reduce number of feeds so that a) I can leave her while i go to work and b) get a decent amount of sleep.

I would drop one feed at a time during the day- give her solid food and water about an hour before the milk feed is sue, then just refuse it if she asks- at least you will know she is not hungry.

I found that the first feed was the hardest one to drop, but once DS got the hang of it the others were easier.

With the night time feeds, I went cold turkey one night. I warned him first though, and we said "night night milk see you in the morning" (I left the morning and evening feeds til last as they were comfort as well as nutrition). He screamed a lot the first night but I just offered water and the next night he barely complained.

Morning feed was easy as he just seemed to forget, evening feed took longer as he and I really enjoyed the night time cuddle etc. All in all, it took about 5 months but I started earlier than you... could be done quicker as long as she's eating lots of solids. hth

My 1yr old feeds probably as often as that day and night. I manage the nights by cosleeping so it works out fine. If I am away from her during the day she just eats food and drinks water and has a big feed when I get home. She isn't interested in cows milk or ebm in a cup which worried me initially but seems happy to wait until I'm home.
