Breastfeeding newborn.. what painkillers are safe?

Hi, baby is 4 days old and I am in agony with a tear 'down there'! The kind of agony which makes me scream every time I move and renders it practically impossible to walk..!

I really would like to use pain relief, I have paracetamol but it's not helping

Is anything else actually safe?

Thanks

Totally agree with rasputin, but to add the Breastfeeding network have a drugline you can ring regarding medication. Lots of meds don't have a licence for use in bfing but are safe iyswim. You can call them or there is downloadable info on their website

did the hospital not give you any diclofenac? I took this when DS was newborn and it helped a lot.

Get the MW to come round and see you

Agree you need to see your midwife and GP asap, a tear should not be that painful.

Thanks you for advice, yeah I was told I had bruising... left hospital after 2 hours..but oh my it's definitely torn!!! Just one small area, haven't had it seen since. MW just said 'did you have stitches?' so I said 'no but it's agonisingly painful blabla' and she just smiled. I know it's not normal as with DD I was fine (this baby was a massive 8lb 15oz..)

I may have to hobble to GP and see what they think (oh the indignity )

Thanks, good to know there may be some drugs I can take!
