My son was admitted with tummy bug - given rehydration powders - home again - I was only bf at night - after 8 months of full bf he is now fully weaned and on formula - apart from a middle of the night 2 minute suckle - I am bf again all day yesterday and today as he is sick - Am I making enough milk for him ?

Thanks v much

as long as he is feeding he is stimulating your supply and getting valuable nutrients antibodies and liquids. if he wasn't feeding you'd currently be stressing at how you'd be getting any fluids into him. So I'd say keep it up but offer cups of liquids too. How does he seem now?

when my toddler was 2.5 we were on holiday in greece and he got a bug. it was summer and very hot. he went off food completely and just bf all the time.he was fine and didn't get dehydrated at all.

at that stage I was normally only feeding before and after naps/bedtime, but my supply obviously increased within a day or so. I did get sore nips from the sudden increase in feeding but that's another story.....[ouch]

so i agree with foxy - keep bf but also offer him water . if a doctor or hv tells you clear fluids only you need to remember that doesn't apply to breast milk

Thank you so much for your replies - he seems better this evening - although he vomited again this morning - I'm bf him - all day and night - I can see the milk in his mouth and feel it in my breasts - bit sore - but worth it all to see him on the mend - thanks for responding - it was very comforting - cheers

that's great to hear he's doing better

don't worry about one vomit, as long as he is still having the normal number of wet nappies and the urine is a normal colour, he will be fine
