Hi darling.

Stopping the feeding...... well it is now day 4 since my return (sob! sob!).

I didn't do anything to prepare before I went away. I fed them as normal told them to say bye bye to my boobs and that was that. I went away (fab fab fab!!!!).

When I got home Monday night was hell on earth. They were screaming until about 4am. They pawed me and just went beserk! They had been fine without me, but the test was on. I just kept offering them their bottles.

Tuesday night, DT1 went ballistic for about 20mins and DT2 drank his bottle and went to bed after 10mins. They both woke at 4am (they seem to love that hour) and cried. DT2 drank his bottle straight away and went back to sleep. DT1 fought me and the bottle for about 20 mins, then drank and fell asleep.

Wednesday night DT2 went ballistic! DT1 drank her bottle, cried for 10 mins and fell asleep. DT2 drank his bottle and fell asleep after 5 mins, woke an hour later and screamed for about an hour and a half. They woke again around 4am, drank their bottles and went back to sleep.

Will update you tomorrow as to how tonight goes.

I could give in, but then I would have to fight this battle again when I decide to stop again. I've basically decided that it will be about a week of pure hell and then all should come good. It's not nice hearing them scream, but they are screaming cos they are angry, not cos they are hungry. DH helps as much as he can, but they want me and I am the one who has to win this battle. And before anyone moans at me.... I don't care!

It will come good dropinthe. You just have to be ready for it yourself. Good luck honey, see you on the other side!

Dropinthe, if you search the messages about 2 weeks ago, you will find a thread with your name in it, started by me, trying to find you! You and Flum seemed to have dropped off the face of Mumsnet and I was missing both of you. Now I see you are both still posting so I will keep looking out for you!

Giving up b/fing eh? Good luck!

dropinthe · 02/07/2005 13:27

That's nice-two threads with my name-I feel quite important now! I have really only been posting on "Alas Poor Cigarette" as that's where all us fag free ladeez hang out but I'm normally found bemoaning my fate on boob threads! I do tend to get on here most days although I have to work every Sat/Sunday lately-I start at 3pm today and am gutted I will be missing the concert later! However I have smuggled a small radio into the bunker of a office I work in and will be working on my own from 4pm so hope to pick it up there.
How have you been lately L/mum? Weren't you buying a new house???

MarsLady · 03/07/2005 20:32

how's the stopping going honey?

OP posts:
dropinthe · 04/07/2005 12:31

He hasn't had a feed since Saturday morning but he has been busy away from me.This morning he cried for over a half an hour,I got him off on my shoulder(me sobbing as part of me still wanst to do it although I know its for the best)went to put him down and he woke up again screaming. Is now still awake and I will have to contend with another battle of wills soon. So not too bad although a wrench for me!

dropinthe · 04/07/2005 12:34

Thanks for asking-how about you??

MarsLady · 04/07/2005 12:57

All completely fine now. They take their bottles happily and no longer paw me or complain. It's worth persevering! Just tick off the days. I'll be thinking of you. I find lots of walks help.

dropinthe · 04/07/2005 16:03

How did you cope with the full boobs and have you bought that designer bra yet??

MarsLady · 04/07/2005 21:36

I expressed three times. Once each day. First day 5mls each boob, second day 4mls, third day 3mls.

Waiting for the boobies to go down a bit then off to get the bra.

OP posts:
dropinthe · 05/07/2005 15:27

I'm almost there! Has now been three days and apart from being slightly full this morning my boobs definitely know that's it-job done! Am feeling less emotional about it each day and by the time I go to Turkey next week should be out of my head completely. Just seems like the end of an era-I was married 5 years ago without kids and now have two and that's it!
Thanks for your advice-my boobs are going to be really droopy once I've dried up-I'll be looking for some serious push me ups to convince anyone they are pert and ready for action again!!!!

MarsLady · 05/07/2005 18:54

Well done you! How's DS coping with the new regime? Hope he's coping as well as you.

My boobs still fit comfortably inside the nursing bra, just waiting for shrinkage. What if they don't shrink???? Quelle horreur!!!!!!!!!

OP posts:
mears · 05/07/2005 18:58

Scuse me butting in but they will shrink. After last baby I had 'spaniel's lugs' for a while. Took about 2 years for them to fill back up with fatty tissue and am really happy with them. Just remember they will feel 'empty' for a while when the milk stops coming. They do come back to life though

MarsLady · 05/07/2005 19:00

Thank you mears.

I do know that, but you know what it's like when you first stop. The last time that I gave up breastfeeding was 6.5years ago. You forget an awful lot of stuff

OP posts:
dropinthe · 05/07/2005 20:58

OMG!!!!!!!!!!Tonight I think the realisation that he isn't getting any more milk has finally hit him and I have never heard a child scream in pure unadulterated ANGER in my life!!! Remember he is 18 months and yet he has screamed on top of his lungs with DH now for over half an hour-my mum has now taken over because dh was getting so upset by it all and she is on round 2-God,can he scream-he is such a strong willed bugger!!
At least there has been a shift in my thinking-I just don't want to give in now-I want to stop-its time to stop and by golly I will!!

MarsLady · 06/07/2005 11:25

How did it go dropinthe? Told you about the angry screams. Not good huh? Hope you managed to stay strong! Thinking of you!

Hi Dropinthe. Sorry I didn't reply earlier, but I have been off line for a few days - yes, moving again. Sorry the baby still wants the boobie. Hope he gets the messsage soon.

dropinthe · 06/07/2005 13:48

No,didn't give in and haven't today and won't full stop!! Are you still going to be in Bristol LM??

Lonelymum · 06/07/2005 15:54

Yup. I'm here. We were just moving from a temporary rented house to a permanent bought one IYSWIM.

Lonelymum · 06/07/2005 15:55

Meant to say, you are doing well with the feeding.

MarsLady · 06/07/2005 21:22

How's it been today honey?

OP posts:
dropinthe · 07/07/2005 12:14

Most deffo finished completely now-boobs going down-not so many screams-cuddles to sleep-excellent!!

MarsLady · 07/07/2005 21:29

and how was bedtime tonight?

Mine now just go straight to sleep. DT1 even slept right through for the first time last night. Hope DT2 gets the habit and they both sleep through tonight. It would be wonderful!

OP posts:
MarsLady · 08/07/2005 09:49

My gorgeous DT1 slept through again!

How goes it your end?

OP posts:
jessicaandbumpsmummy · 08/07/2005 09:49

just need to get working on dt2!!!!!

MarsLady · 08/07/2005 09:51

he only woke once, so hopefully he's getting the idea. This stopping breastfeeding has been brilliant! Soon I'll get full nights of sleep, once the blimming workmen have gone from the back. They started at 8am this morning. Drilling, buzzing, sanding etc. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

OP posts:
jessicaandbumpsmummy · 08/07/2005 09:52

jess up at 6.10 but is much happier today - she ate all her breakfast and half of mine the cheeky monkey!

Sleeping now and has been for an hour - hoorah!
