Just out of interest really, does anyone know if there is any benefit to using expressed breast milk when weaning or does it not make much difference once you get to 6 months?

Assuming no allergies, you can just use cow's milk for cereals and cooking. They still take the majority of their calories from bmilk until 12 months anyway so you'll be bfing lots.

Do you mean is there a health benefit to not introducing cow's milk?

I suppose both really - whether the extra few ounces of breastmilk makes a difference and whether there's any benefit to delaying cow's milk a bit longer. There are no food allergies in the family but there is asthma and exczema if that makes a difference.

if you're still breastfeeding then you';re just as well to use cows milk on breakfast

We have asthma and eczema in our family so did no cows milk till 12 m.
I expressed extra and froze into ice cubes and used it for rice etc.

We then found BLW and just let DD do her thing with food so not too many milk ice cubes were needed then.

If you have asthma and eczema in the family then i wouldnt introduce cows milk till later. You dont have to stop breastfeeding when you get to 6 mo by the way!

"Breastmilk should be the baby's main source of nutrition till 12 mo"

AppleAndBlackberry · 02/01/2010 21:37

No, I wasn't planning to stop breastfeeding

I haven't heard of no cows milk til 12 months if there is asthma/eczema. Is that yogurts and things as well? Don't suppose you've got a link to something I can read about that?
