Expressed milk for a 4 wk old, how much and when?

My boy has a very good appetite indeed, he is putting on the ounces daily and my milk is leaking almost constantly so I am going to express some now, as I think it is established enough.

How much, roughly, would a 4 wk old drink? How much do I offer? And also, is it true that night milk is thicker than day milk so if I am going to give milk of an evening, i need to make it milk that was expressed in an evening?

I am not thinking of offering a bottle each day necessarily, but every now and then if I need a break for DH to feed him, that kind of thing.

(I have another BF question, but will do another thread for it, as its slightly different to this, don't want to confuse the two...)

Anything from 2oz to 6oz or more! That's helpful isn't it!!

I'd do a bottle of 3oz and if he downs the lot then do another bottle of 3oz - then it won't be wasted.

Night milk isn't thicker, they've just discovered it has 'sleepy' hormones in it. I don't think it really makes that much difference. I didn't know this when I exclusively expressed for DS, and he slept through from 12 weeks no matter when I'd expressed the milk.

I'd try and store as much as you can now - I wish I'd expressed more in the early days with DD as it's useful to have extra in the freezer for growth spurts etc.
