BF for 9 months - small white lump on areola when feeding

I have been bf my baby since she was born in March but have never enjoyed it as it's always been painful, sore and uncomfortable and this is made worse by the incredibly painful engorgement if I go a few hours without feeding/expressing.

I would love to give up but DD will not take formula (don't blame her really!) so have to stick with it for some time yet.

However, last week I noticed a small white lump appeared on my areola near my nipple when she was sucking. I can't feel it or see it any other time but DP thinks it's indicative of DD's poor latch which explains why this breast is always the first to get engorged and doesn't express much more than half an oz.

Has anyone had anything like this or know what it might be?

I think your DP may be right, it sounds like it might be a milk duct which is not clearing properly.

Why don't you visit your local breastfeeding support group and ask for help? It shouldn't hurt and I'm amazed you've put up with it for this long in pain without getting help.

Don't be embarrassed, we all find breastfeeding hard till we get the hang of it.

Is it small? A montgomery gland? I had one that got infected and it was a little white bump.

I did get lots of help in the beginning but it never really got better and then she started pulling off and arching her back and pushing with her legs so it's a constant battle. I think I just gave up fighting her and just let her do it her way, and now it's too late to change - she's a feisty bugger!

But yes it is a small bump. Will google that and see if it matches up. Not too worried as it doesn't hurt just intrigued really.

As for getting help with BF = just think at 9 months it's all a bit too late.

Nope - not montgomery gland. Know what they are now. This is just a little petit pois type lump under the skin that only appears while DD is sucking. Can't see it now. Weird!
