BF baby only pooing twice a week.. is this 'constipation' or normal?

My 10 week old BF DD only poos once every 3 days. the HV said that is normal for a BF baby and that they are 'allowed' to go 9 days.
she seems ok, a little windy sometimes (awful farts!!) but in anyones experience is this lack of pooing ok, normal etc and can I do anything to help her?

DS (bf) only poo-ed every 2-3 days for the 1st few months. Reckon it's pretty normal, as is the wind IME.

Make the most of it, it's 2-3 times a day now here (18 months)

Completely normal. And yes, the wind is vile, isn't it

Def normal. Both my dc were BF and went days without a poo and were perfectly happy. I think that breast milk is so digestible that the babies very efficiently use it up so there isn't much waste.

Like Montifer says - enjoy () it whilst it lasts. You'll soon be dealing with enormous ones once baby is weaned.

Normal - my HV's "record" is 11 days. Which the baby broke whilst naked on scales in clinic. Apprently the poor mum had to borrow scrubs to go home in....

Thanks for reassurance. DS used to poo every nappy so thought I'd check. Funny how babies can be so different!

My 23 week old dd goes about every 7-8 days - was reassured that this is normal. Agree about the stinky farts

jaggythistle · 23/12/2009 10:58

I sort of wish mine waited that long - but I suppose the end result isn't fun.

He currently saves it up during the night and dispenses it at intervals all morning, normally just after the last change of course. He's 13 weeks.

surprisingly the volume is normal = don't know where it all goes

= meant 2 b -

My HV told me that, as long as the poo is soft when it comes, even if you go a few days without seeing one, it's not constipation. Constipation is when the poo is hard, can be painful for the baby and sometimes looks like pellets rather just irregular soft poos.

Pineapplechunks · 23/12/2009 13:50

Whats the poo like when it does come? Is it soft and yellowy, if so then all is well.

There is so little waste product with breast milk, its all good stuff, that theres no need to poo all the time.
