I mean I'm knackered and need my tea but at the same time don't want to pass on the caffine and make things worse!

I have three DC including a BF 5 month-old DD and I can't really see that drinking tea (or not) would have a huge effect.

457.8 per day.

More helpfully, Kellymom has some details on the amounts and 'half life' of caffeine that will pass into breastmilk.

Worth noting if you've drunk caffeine throughout pregnancy your baby likely has some tolerance anyway.

Honeypeckle · 25/11/2009 14:22

I've read that it's ok to have 300mg of caffeine per day, there is around 48mg in a cup of tea. I have 5/6 cups a day and it has not affected DS.
I also drink decaf (I do love tea!)

merrilyverily · 25/11/2009 14:25

have you tried redbush - caffeine free, can have milk/sugar in it. doesn't taste much different to me.

Wills · 25/11/2009 14:37

Gizmo - yay! Thanks for that info really useful! I'm off now to make another cuppa and throw away the raspberry leaf stuff!

I drink gallons of tea, but have been on decaff since first pg with ds almost 5yrs ago.

I think the amount of choc I eat would tip the balance

gizmo · 25/11/2009 16:12

No problem Wills. Tea is/was lifeblood to me - particularly with a newborn in the house.

CoonRapids · 25/11/2009 21:58

Hooray for tea when bf. The let-down feeling makes me crave a cup of tea .

BonjourIvresse · 25/11/2009 22:22

Don't worry about the tea - Drink the tea. The tea won't do any harm.

Species8472 · 26/11/2009 17:02

I'm with mawbroon, been on decaff since pregnant with my now 21 week old, and I really can't tell the difference now tbh. I've found PG Tips decaff the best. But agree that a few cups of normal tea are fine, it's not as if you're chugging back double expressos all day

Species8472 · 26/11/2009 17:04

Sorry, that should of course be 'espressos'
