hello

just wondering if my ds is feeding enough. He is bf and 12 weeks now and feeding alot during the day every 2 to 3 hours but then night feeds have dropped to just once, will feed him at 9pm to 10pm ish then he doesnt wake until 4am, then 7am and then usually every three hours. Is this enough? with my dd I seem to remeber her feeding almost constantly for the first 6 months especially at night.

If you are feeding on demand and your baby is having lots of wet nappies, plenty of dirty ones, is alert and gaining weight happily then it's fine. All babies are different.

thanks showofhands he is alert and having lots of dirty nappies, so thats reassuring, just seems a long time to sleep i get paranoid.

is he alert and happy? wet and dirty nappies? growing out of his clothes?

if yes to all these then he sounds like he's doing ok - babies are all different so don't go mad comparing him to his sister

My sister's DD started sleeping through from 7pm - 8am at 5 weeks and still put on weight at an amazing rate.

She started waking again from about 4 months (once or twice a night), and overall went from the 50th centile at birth to the 95th centile by 6 months (exclusive bf) so it obviously didn't affect her weight gain!

My ds was exactly the same at that age, except that he only nursed every 4 hours during the day.

If it makes you feel any better, my DS is 13 weeks, also BF, and doesn't feed at all at night! He sleeps 10-11 hours at night, feeds every 2-3 during the day. HV says its absolutely fine, and he's growing well.

thanks everyone, i feel alot better and will get him weighed.
