What do you do with EBM from a Christmas party when you want some wine?

Do you have to ditch it, or does the alcohol in the EBM disappear at the same rate your body would metabolise it?

Disclaimer - I read this on another thread - but apparently the alcohol disappears at the same rate as it would from your blood, so 1 unit per hour or whatever. If you're not planning on drinking in quantity, and wait a couple of hours before expressing, AFAIK you'll be fine.

skidoodle · 22/11/2009 20:10

Use it.

HeinzSight · 22/11/2009 20:31

So lets say I have a good expressing session before the evening starts, have a few glasses of wine over the next few hours, go back to hotel room, express again, is that 'sozzled milk?'

yes that's sozzled milk.

Fitzy72 · 22/11/2009 20:36

I was told by the NICU nurse that a glass of wine would be fine but it would be best not to use the milk if it was a bottle of wine.
not sure how long it takes to get out of the system.

lal123 · 22/11/2009 20:38

Sure I read on here that basically if you're not OK to drive then you're not OK to breastfeed.

HeinzSight · 22/11/2009 20:42

so do you work out how much you've drunk and how long it'd take to metabolise then ditch any milk you've had to express (due to bursting boobs) before that time.

That's pretty much what I did. Heartbreaking though. Only a couple of times in my case cos I am really not much of a drinker.

can i jump in here; a bit confused. fist night plannd fo middle of december and DD2 will be 15/6 weeks and exclusively BF up till now. I am getting her used o a bottle by offering her 2oz EBF every night (tonight is the first night she has taken it) thn expressing after. if she doesn't settle i offer breast which she may take for a little while.

does this sound like a good way to lead up to leaving he alone with a bottle or should i do things differently. I fgued i cary on like this (maybe not doing it every night) and then on the night i am going out; feed then leave a few ozs of EBF and expres whilst out at nxt feed then feed when i gt back, that way I can have a good 4-5 hours away. does this sound plausible?

TIA

sorry for missing letters keyboard playing up

chipsticksmammy · 23/11/2009 09:17

forevermore, my wee one will take a bottle of ebm from me or dh but nobody else. only found this out when we left her with my sis. See if you can have a babysitting practice session

Longtalljosie · 23/11/2009 09:25

forevermore - I would keep on giving her a bottle every night until you go out, especially if last night was the first night she took it. You want to be confident she's relaxed with a bottle before you leave. If she's 15 odd weeks you may want to leave more than 2 fl oz though!
