runny nappies in bf baby - should I be worried?

My DD has had one runny nappy each day for the last 4 days. She is breast fed. She is 5.5 months old, should I be worried? She is definitely teething and has everything and anything in her mouth. I'm worried it could be my fault as not all toys are being sterilised, but I find that as soon i give her something it gets dropped on the floor etc. Also I do use hand steriliser on her hands once a day, could it be this?...

TIA

I would have thought the teething could affect her digestion. Maybe ask your HV? But I definitely think you should relax on the sterilisation! Eat a peck of dirt a day and all that... and I can't imagine that hand steriliser would be particularly nice to suck on.

runny poo common with teething - think it's something to do with excess saliva they are swallowing. Ashton & Parsons powders can help settle the tummy. Look out for bad nappy rash too.

Yeah don't worry about sterilizing everthing, as long as basic hygiene is followed in the house that's enough. That hand sanitiser tastes revolting!
Teething can make poo more runny due to all the dribble I think. If babe seems well I shouldn't worry.

Ok thanks ladies I called hv today and await return call. I'll give up on hand steriliser stuff too. Just being nuerotic first time mum!! Was just a bit worried as it's going on for a bit and she is going every day which is a bit out of the norm for her. She usually goes every other day. The rivers of drool certainly could contribute, wish these little teeth would just come through!

I have never sterilised a toy in my life, much less used a hand steriliser!

I'd be more worried about what's in those wipes than what's on my floor - are they marketed as being safe for babies?

Teething definitely gives dodgy nappies so I wouldn't worry unduly, especially if only one a day. That's not diarrhoea or anywhere near it.

My ds (7.5mo & bf) had about 6 really runny nappies a day for a week a couple of weeks ago, combined with a rash etc I took him to the doctor (PFB!) and was told it was all just teething (and he still hasn't got a tooth!). If your dd seems well other than that and is feeding well, normal temperature etc then I'm sure there is no need to worry. If it persists then you could take her to the doctor (don't think HVs are much use imo...)
