It's a while since I had babies but this has been bothering me.
I work in a nursery in a todler room and yesterday had to cover in the baby unit.
I went in at 2.30 and one baby, just turned 1, was screaming and the nn was trying to get him to sleep. He did go off eventually, she said he was like that quite often.
While he was sleeping, the rest of the babies had tea. He woke up during tea, but they had forgotten to save him any .
I fed him a little pot of fromage frais. All the while I was feeding him, he was sucking really hard on his thumb. i said that he seemed really hungry, and asked if he had any milk.
NN looked in his bag and said his mum had only sent in 1 bottle. It had had 2 oz in and he had drunk it that morning. He arrived at 8.30.
I don't know how he did with his dinner and the nns couldn't tell me as they were both on their dinner and the other staff had gone home
His mum came to collect him at @5.00. She asked for his bottle as she said he would scream for milk on the way home (they go on the bus).
Talking to the nns, they said that the health visitor had questioned mum about feeding, as he has hardly put on any weight. He is a skinny little thing, not healthy and chubby like most babies.
So, is this normal?
How many bottles does your 1 year old have during the day?
I am really concerned about this baby, and am thinking of talking to the manager.
Do I have valid concerns or is this normal?

from 10/11 months both dd and ds only had milk in the morning before breakfast and before bed - they had no daytime milk at all. They had 3 meals and snacks and had water with them. Sounds like he needs more solid foods if they keep forgetting to feed him - poor sod!

p.s. 2.30pm sounds quite late for a nap if he hasnt napped before then. Maybe he is overtired and that is why he wouldnt settle. When mine first dropped to 1 nap it was around 11.30am

My Ds is 13 months and has 9oz milk in the morning and 9oz before bed.
He has brakfast luch and dinner and snacks through the day too.

I will second what seona said about it being late for a nap at 2-30, my Ds usually naps 3-4 hours after waking in the morning, he usually goes down somewhere between 10 and 11.

Like Seona and izzybiz, from about 12 months my ds had milk when he woke up in morning and just before bed. 3 meals and snacks and water during day. Does the little one eat much at meal times and snack times?
I would definitely talk to manager with your concerns.

Thanks everyone.
I will speak to her, just so they can keep a record of what he does eat.
I don't really enjoy being in the baby unit. I love babies but all that responsibility is a bit overwhelming. Give me a room full of toddlers or pre-schoolers any day!
