Best way to wash breastfed newborn clothes?

The words I am trying not to put in the header to protect the faint of heart are "poo", "runny" and "explosion"

DS is 7 weeks, exclusively breastfed and keeps pooing in shades of mustard right out of his nappy and up his back. Rarely had this trouble with DD, wondering if testicles act as some kind of flood barrier.

I have a growing pile of sleepsuits soaked in Napisan overnight and then washed in non-bio at 40, but just going straight back in the soaking bucket as the yellow stains persist. These aren't little perfectionist-worrying spots, either; these are dirty great back-covering yellow world maps of poostains.

It's worse than Fruit Shoots... anyone know how to get these out, before I search out a 3-6 months wardrobe entirely in shades of yellow, orange & brown?!

i have same problem with dd. tesco own oxi stain remover worked better than napisan for me - the colour saver one.

Soaked them in Dreft washing powder, scrubbed by hand then put in washing machine with Ace bleach and non-bio washing powder.

Occasionally resorted to binning them. Try buying sleepsuits with patterns - they don't show the stains so badly.

And it's not a boy thing - I have 3 DDs

Patterned sleepsuits... if anyone can find any in abstract yellow & orange that don't cost £££s let me know!

Sorry to hear that my testicles theory is a load of balls, though.

I think the perfect babygro would have a beige pattern at the top & front and an orange pattern on the bottom & back... but it would look grim.

I second the cheapy oxi stain remover - you can get from tesco, also from pound stretcher. It says its safe for baby clothes on there.

If I can't wash straight away I have washing up bowl for the purpose to give them a little soak.

Or a squirt of fairy liquid apply a bit of water scrub til foaming then put in the machine. I then put on an extra rinse to make sure its al washed out. (this worked for a specular poo which went over baby,out of his outfits, over the friend who was holding him, and her two layers clothing!!)

haha!!! its an obscurely satisfying thing to get out a baby poo stain (am I verging on the weird?!)

I used washing up liquid when I had this problem, and if possible, as hanaflower said, leave them lying in the sun. Immediate action in the key!

ps sainsburys have lovely patterned suits at the moment - and you're in luck, some in bright yellows and reds!! (orange and mustard should blend in )

buy white
use laundry bleach
put on super rinse cycle to get it all out

sunlight is the best remedy, leave it outside for ages if it's really bad.

Another vote for sunlight. I have a sunny windowsill in my spare room which is exclusively devoted to breast pads (to kill thrush spores) and get poo stains out of DD's clothes. It's very effective for both!

Even if it's not that sunny I found putting them outside or by a window pretty effective.

DS2 had the same problem and he has formula so I don't think it's just breastfed babies that get this.

I just use good old fashioned Bio liquid (shoot me!) I find Ariel (I think it's Ariel) gel. It's the best I've ever used. Quite expensive though

Meant to say, I find Ariel is very good at getting out stains (smells too if you use the one with febreze)

soda crystals soak, then out into the sunshine. Works for nappies too. Soda crystals 64p in tesco for a big bag.

Yes, sunshine! Dry them outside for half a day or from sunset to when you get up in the morning even if they don't get dry (finish them off in the TD or on a radiator/airer)

Primark do nice babygros in yellow for boys. I also got some nice patterned ones from ebay. Or just buy the cheapest white ones and bin them when he grows out of them rather than passing them on (or tye die them to hide the stains )

have you tried a dif brand of nappy? I found that some were much more absorbant of runny explosive poo than others...huggies and pampers always meant much more poo on the clothes, whereas boots and tesco brands absorbed much better and only had some over-run.
All a matter of degrees really, but something to think about as well as the washing angle. Oxi action stuff and sunlight though, second those.

i have found, just throwing them in the machine with fairy non bio on a 60 degree wash works...but only if u put them in as soon as possible!

Both of mine did poos like this. The routine I've ended up with is: wash them soon, spray vast quantities of Vanish solution on them, wash in Bio for pre-wash, then non-Bio for main wash (avoids nasty reaction to Bio powder), use scoop of Vanish powder in main wash.

Well that explains a minor mystery (first time mum) - I was hanging out the washing on a sunny day and noticed a very yellow stain which had survived the wash - and couldn't understand when I couldn't find the offending vest when I took the washing back in!

I find the best remedy (in the absence of bright sunlight) is prompt action and putting a bit of laundry detergent directly onto the poo stain before putting it into the wash.
