I have been exclusively bf my 8 week old and it seems I'm about to start my AF, I thought this wasn't supposed to happen??

My DD2 is gaining weight and I'm feeding her regularly, every 2-3 hours day and night but it looks like AF is about to arrive.

Has this happened to anyone else? And is this normal?

I had this several times with DS2 from 12 weeks onwards - periods of about one day and then they would stop; was my period trying to come back but didnt come back properly until I started mix feeding at 6 months

Yes this is normal. Disaapointing but normal. My periods returned at 6 weeks with DS1. That is why breastfeeding is not a reliable contraceptive!. Longest break I ever got with feeding babies was 4 months. Not fair is it.

Exactly the same happened to me with DD2, felt very cheated as was so looking forward to months without it. Also found that DD2 fussed alot more when AF came, think the milk must have tasted slightly different at that time of the month.

Ps GP said was totally normal.

thank you for your replies. It's just another one of those things that puts doubts about how efficient your breastfeeding is in your mind.
