20 week old fully BF baby still cries/screams when pooing/trumping - is this normal?

My DS2 has always been a gripey/colicky baby, and really struggled with wind but has been getting better since he was 4 months old. However, he seems bothered by bowel movements and is generally grumpy in the build up to and as he does a poo or trump. I thought he would grow out of this, but i am starting to worry he has a problem with his bowel. Tummy massage and leg cycling calms him temporarily but doesn't stop it altogether. I still give him dentinox colic drops which help a little but i would have thought he wouldn't need such things by this stage.

Anyone else have a similar baby- when did it get better - did solids help? Any other advice?

Luckily the grizzling has stopped now that the pooing has stopped, but i get this every few days when he saves his poos up, and i really feel for him.

DS does seem to stir if he's asleep and give a v slight grizzle when he trumps or poos but it is momentary really.

Sorry I don't have an answer but hoping this will bump the thread for you and someone more knwledgable will help!

Thanks Ses- with DS2, he wakes crying in the night sometimes when he's trumping and the only thing to calm him is to feed him, so it must be uncomfortable for him. It's just funny because it's not all the time, so it's not every poo or trump, just spells of a couple of days and then he'll be ok for a couple of days

Think it is pretty normal for a baby to find passing motion weird/uncomfortable, especially if not v frequent so a lot of build-up!
I find that my boys - who were once loose ebough to go after every feed - are more fractious about it all now that they pass stools less frequently. Most parents I speak to think their babies are a bit agitated when they do, especially those who are onece-a-weekers!
I guess the digestive tract takes up a large part of a small body, so not surprising really!

Hi Pula, just a thought, can you link it to anything you've been eating? Just wondering about the on/off-ness of the problem.

Hi Spangle- good thought - I think i will start making a note of what i eat/drink to see if there's any connection. I don't eat spicy food generally, generally drink decaff drinks etc but i do have the occasional coffee, glass of wine, orange juice etc which I guess could affect him?
