I need some encouragement to keep feeding DS 11mths :(

I woke out in the night with an excrutiatingly painful breast, spent the rest of the night with the chills or feeling really hot and generally cr*p THis is the 3rd or 4th bout I have had with DS and it is making me feel low, so close to just giving up but I got to 15mths with DD so wanted to try and do the same with DS

By the way DH is picking up a px from the doctors as we speak.

Please do not give up! Get in a deep hot bath and get some hot flannels on it. And if you can take a duvet day with ds. I know it is difficult. But rest is important. Make yourself a flask up (fennel tea with honey always helps me), some snacks (for you and ds), and then whatever will help your time in bed to be as restful as possible. If DH around even better - perhaps he could look after ds whilst you rest?

DH is looking after both of them, poor DD has a horrible cough/cold too and DS is teething molars

I haven't felt this rough for ages.

In addition to the above many mothers find relief for a blocked duct by soaking the affected breast in a bowl or sink filled with 2 tbsp Epsom salts in 4 litres of hot water. Soak for 10 minutes every 3 hours for 24 hours.

Also main thing is rest, rest and rest (which must be impossible with two dc).

Lecithin, now I think about it might help you. If you have had mastitis more than once, may be a drainage problem.

Lecithin, one capsule (1200 mg) 3 or 4 times a day also seems to help prevent recurrent blocked ducts, at least for some mothers.

I just wanted to say keep going once you feel better and you will feel better very soon once you have taken the drugs.

I am feeding DC4 and have had mastitis 3 times in 3 months - worse than the other 3 children. There has always been a reason though. The last time was due to one of his siblings being a bit over enthusiastic when having a cuddle and squashing my boob!

It is horrible when you're feeling awful but do keep going if you want to.

This is my last child and I want to keep going for as long as he wants to. Each child has got longer and longer... 1 year, 17 months, 23 months... and it is such a lovely thing to be able to do.

Most importantly get some REST!

That's it. I do love BF and having got this far I don't really want to give up but this infection knocked me for six - all because I slept on my front a couple of nights ago!

My breast has stopped oozing and is less swollen but still bright red, I don't feel as fluey but I still don't feel great Not helped by both my children waking in the night - unusually - so I was up solidly between 245am and 515am!

In bed now to get some rest.
