DP and I are going away next weekend (no DC!! ) i'm still BFing DD2 but she only has a morning and night feed, occasionally some BM as drink the day, so i haven't really got the chance to express any before we go

she does happily take a bottle of BM or FM if neccessary but i was thinking of trying her on cow's milk now as she is only a few weeks short of being 12 months, and she has in meals aleady

all my other DC have only been BF until 8 or 9 months and i then went to formula so haven't really gone down this route before - is there any reason she won't be ok on it?

I did it, with no problems ... can't advise it (governemnt guidelines etc+)

I suppose it depends on how good her eating is. If she is getting a nice and varied diet, then I can't see a problem with it, especially if she is only a few weeks away from her first birthday anyway.

she will be 4 weeks from her 1st birthday when we go and she eats really well plus having finger food etc during the day, and water to drink too

I might just try her over the weekend with a bottle or 2 just to make sure she gets on with it ok.......

I spoke to my mum about it and she just said 'well you were all on cows milk from about 5 months'

I changed my DD over semi-gradually (she was FF) at the same age.....just a week of one cows milk bottle and then the next one FF. She'd had it in weetabix and cooking since 6 months anyway and she coped fine. I shall be doing the same with my 7 month old when the time comes as well.

My 2 boys were both around 11 months when I made the change - gradually though! They were ok with it. Sounds like she'll be fine. Don't worry!!! (I know, it's like someone saying, 'don't breathe!')

I did it when DD was 10 months - no problems

well i tried her last night and she drank about 3oz which i thought was a good start, i'll just keep giving her a bit each night and hopefully she'll be ok by friday......

but if not i'll just get her some FM!

DS has been having cow's milk at nursery for about a month now (from when he was 10 months), three days a week. He's taken to it really well, drinks it from a doidy cup, and the HV said that was fine. He's breastfed the rest of the time.
