1 week old has white residue on tongue; milk or thrush

feeds well, i feel fine and she was born by csection. DD1 had this and it put a stop to BF since was not identified until it got really bad; just want to nip it in the bud if this it.

what can i do to check? her tongue is pink with a speckled layer of white

Does her breath smell? My DS had thrush and his breath was offensive, the white coating was quite thick. Is she feeding well, it can make the mouth quite painful apparently. I would say if you are worried ask your midwife/health visitor or GP.

It's probably just milk, do you have any pain in your breasts? The leaflet Grendel links to in this thread is really good.

My daughter had thrush and there was no smell, and also a speckled layer of white. Definitely worth checking with doctor/HV. Particularly likely if either of you has been on antibiotics.
