Steralising the Tommee Tippee Breastpump without a Microwave......???

Hi there

We have just bought a Tommee Tippee breastpump (which looks great) as my breasts are becoming large and painful and the midwife advised expressing to empty them after a feed.

However, it seems that it needs to be steralised before each use, and the steralisation box that came with it seems to be for microwave only. We don't have a microwave.

Is there any other way of steralising this???

how old is your baby? are you engorged because baby is a newborn or because you've just weaned?

if the former then it's better to just express a little off between feeds, or just before a feed than to express as much as you can after baby has finished.

aside from that, you ought to be able to just sterilise in boiling water, or in a cold water steriliser

Hi thisisyesterday

Baby is 2 weeks old - a newborn.

Do you mean putting the parts into water boiling in a pan, or to use boiled water from the kettle?

Is it okay to heat the plastic parts like that?

Yes, just boil it for 6 minutes in an ordinary saucepan on the stove!
Or buy some sterilising tablets and do it for whatever time it says on the packet (half an hour I think) in any container. You don't need to buy a steriliser.

yes, it will be the sort of plastic that can survive heat.

do you need to steralise i thought you didnt have to no more xxxx

wee plenty of people including microbiologists say it's unnecessary.

i have to admit i didn't sterilise anything for ds2 or ds3.
a hot wash ought to be enough yes, or going through a dishwasher
