But, Mil insists it is a well known 'technique' for encouraging children to wean off the breast. Really?? This cannot be true. Tell me she made it up, and that no one in the history of lactation has ever actually done this.

Surely if you wanted to put them off, you'd run mustard or chilli jam or something - tomato sauce is the one thing that 99% of children eat with enthusiasm!

It is sort of known and does work to a degree, i know that in pakistan some women put henna on their breast and say bfing milk is finished. Just to make breasts look different (like when you serve their fav dish looking different an d they refuse to eat it)

I have a friend who used lemon juice.

Now, you see, from what I understood (which, I admit may be slightly limited due to my habit of covering my ears and shouting "LA LA LA CAN'T HEAR YOU" whenever mil wants to chat about my breasts) I thought it was more about appearance than taste. Make your boobs red so they look different, rather than cover them in lemon juice or sweet chili dipping sauce to put the child off.

I was actually laughing until I realised that it was serious! In the summer if you rubbed ketchup on your boobs there would be a swarm of flies chasing you down the road!
