I've been breast feeding my 14 week old daughter but gave a bottled of expressed milk from 2 weeks. It took her a while to get used to the bottle (about 2 weeks) and from then she had a bottle in the night from hubbie, anytime between 5 and 6 am. We switched to formula at 10 weeks with no problem. Then 8 days ago she has refused this bottle and will only feed from me.
I've tried the bottle when really hungry and she gets really distressed, when not too hungry and she plays with the teat then gets distressed, I've switched from avent to tommy tippee bottles, I've varied the time of day and gone back to expressed milk but nothing is working. hubbie is having no success either. I need to go to an all day assessment centre/job interview soon (in next 2 weeks) and am getting very stressed by the whole thing. Anyone else had a similar experience of baby rejecting a regular bottle and found ways to get it established again?

Have you changed the teat? I had same thing cos did not know that there were different ones - channge made everything fine again (what a relief!)Changed to 3 or 4 month one - try the next one if the next one doesn't work - if you see what I mean?

Could you try a cup?

My son is 15 weeks and the same as you we gave one bottle a day then he wouldn't have that.

He drank from a doidy cup for my DH this morning. Bit messy but worked.

thing about a cup of ebm is that it can be heartbreaking to spill most of it - unless you are very comfy and prolific with expresing! But certainly worth a try.

We started on Avent and it stopped working at about the same time you've experienced. We than changed to Tommy Tippee which worked for a litte while. I tried Nuby to no avail as well. Then after reading lots of MN posts saying similar and talking to people at my BF group, we tried Mam teats. Dunno what it is about them but they've worked superbly. The other great thing about them is that they fit the Avent bottles so you don't have to spend loads more money.

I now have the opposite probelm which is that 7mo DS is refusing to BF, but that's a whole different thread...!

Thanks so much for the ideas. I'll give the mam teats a go next, as different sizes on tommy t and avent haven't worked. I've tried the cup unsuccessfully so I just hope if I have to be away from her for a whole day, she'll take something, somehow.

can someone not bring her to you to feed during the breaks at your assessment? may not be ideal but just in case she is still a refusenik then.

I tried to get my 2nd DD to take a bottle of EBM a couple of times. The first time my DD1 went mad cos DH was (trying to) feed DD2. I don't think she took to it & after a couple of other attempts, I didn't bother again. I found the stress of trying etc to much for both of us & just enjoyed sitting down with her. In another month or so, you;ll probably find she'll take a beaker of milk herself.
