My DD will be 7 weeks on wednesday and for the past week has been drinking 8oz bottles dry and has 3-4 a day, was wondering if okay to give her half a rusk or some baby rice to fill her up as can't fill her bottles up anymore!

What sort of times is she having her bottles?

When wakes up at 8am, then 12pm, then between 4 and 5, then about 8 or 9pm.

What makes you think she needs more ? If she clamps her mouth closed if you try to slot in a 5th bottle doesn't that indicate that she is full ? 4 hourly intervals and especially 12 hours at night does seem quite long for one so little.

hunkermunker · 18/05/2005 19:52

How much less were you putting in her bottles when you tried reducing them? I think if it was quite a lot less, she would ask for more.

Gem1355 · 18/05/2005 20:14

Hunkermunker i only reduced to 6oz. .
Lizs not saying she needs more but will have to up her bottles to 9oz soon as drinking her current bottles dry! and what do i do after that as 2 young to have solids!

Can you reduce the 8am one to 7oz and see if it satisfies her, but means you can fit another one in so she has 6 or 7oz at 8, 11, 2, 5 and 8? She may want less at each feed as the day goes on, but I think it's probably a bit much to expect the first one of the day to be reduced by 2oz (if that's what you did and if it's not then I'll rethink!).

If you just go straight from giving her 8oz to 6oz at each feed, I think that's probably quite a drop.

Also, if she's fine, gaining weight as she should be and not asking for more milk, then you don't actually have a problem, do you? Or am I misunderstanding the situation. If she does want more milk as she grows then to me the logical answer is to fit in another feed - when she needs it/starts looking for it - and not before.
You don't even need to be considering any other form of nutrition atm.

Well i've upped her to 9oz today and she seems happier today!

Thanx for everyones advice!
