low milk supply or the hot weather? anyone else?

Hi all, is anyone else experiencing your DC feeding more frequently recently? My DD (13 weeks) is feeding every 11/2-2 hours rather than the 3 she normally would. I'm pretty sure its not a growth spurt (as its been going on for a couple of weeks now)but could be wrong and she could be just plain bored too! I'm not sure if this is due to the hot weather and she's thirsty or my milk supply is low- I certainly feel 'empty' and her feeds are getting shorter and shorter too as she's feeding so often.

If she's thirsty does anyone think that -despite bfing advice- it wouldn't hurt to give her some water? In a Doidy cup? Many thanks!

Do you want to give her water? As there is no need too. She is getting the fluid she needs from you.

DS2 (14 weeks) is feeding loads too. I think it's the heat. I'm trying to drink more water to keep my supply up, but also trying to distract him if the feeds get too close together.

It probably is the heat. Best not to give water I think - she will get enough fluid by bf. It's a pain to be feeding so often but it will pass! It's raining here today so hopefully you will get some respite soon

thanks guys for your responses, don't want to give her water but wasn't sure what was best. Its hot and humid here in kent, DD is pretty grouchy too from the weather as well i think. Babypringle-snap on both accounts!

Just make sure you are looking after yourself and keep her as comfortable as possible.

I'm struggling too. In the last two weeks he has gone from 13lb 1oz to 14lb 3oz so hes putting on weight well. The problem is he wants to feed all the time and with three other children to look after I'm struggling and exhausted

bronze - i'm the same. DS1 is getting v whingey that i'm feeding all the time, especially as DH is away. ended up in elc buying toys out of guilt

I'm in the same boat too. Was very near tears today, its hard work at the moment. I'm feeling like the world's worst mum to my dd1 cos I'm stuck to dd2 all the time.

Yup, my ten month old wants lots of little feeds at the moment and I'm sure it's the heat that does it.

DS2 has never gone 3 hours in the day between feeds though he does go longer in the night. He's nearly 21 weeks and I still offer before I set out on any journeys and when he seems grizzly. He's suffering with teething at the moment but that started when he was around 12 weeks or so, though it's got worse recently - 2 are more than half grown and well through the gum, suspect more on the way.

I doubt there's anything wrong with your milk supply, but do drink regularly yourself to maintain your fluid levels, so as to make sure you're not getting thirsty etc in the heat and to help with feeling tired by the constant feeding - and try to make some of what you swallow water as tea, coffee, anything with sugar etc can make you more not less thirsty.

I would not give water, just make sure you drink loads of water yourself and that you give big feeds. I think you being a bit dehydrated plays a role. I am knocking back the water and have noticed my milk is more watery and it's seeming to quench her thirst..
