SPicy food affeting milk?

DD is 3 weeks old . I had a chinese meal last night and it was a bit more spicy than usual.
Today DD seems a little fussy she is feeding and well in herself but is not staying on for as long as usual and has done three dirty nappies one quite explosive .

I was just wondering if it was affecting her feeding at all or is it just an old wives tale?

Hell yeah! I gave up spicy food cos it caused nappy explosions and I suspect tummy ache/wind, judging by the grizzling.

But I had a Thai curry treat this week and paid the price with a big nappy explosion!

Same with fruit juice. As a wise woman in the bra shop told me: Your meal is their next meal.

There is so much conflicting advice half the sites tell you spicy food is fine and half say they can cause tummy ache .

I have noticed if I drink too much pure OJ she is a bit explosive too .

It is just not true that 'your meal is their next meal' - women in bra shops should stick to fitting bras and keep their restrictive dietary advice to themselves!

My advice is to enjoy the spicy food as much as possible now because if you wean doing BLW or puree family meals then those delicious, salty takeaways are out the window in a few months. Mmm thai green curry... chili prawns...

Ha ha! She was a very good bra fitter, if not a qualified nutritionist.

I eat a lot of spicy foods and a lot of things with chillis in, and I've never noticed any problems with DS. I'm hoping he gets a taste for it so I can introduce him to spices and get him onto our food as quickly as possible!

I ate curry nearly every day whilst breastfeeding and never noticed any effects.

Tomatoes and oranges (avoided on HV advice) definately affect him. Too much fruit and veg in general actually

dont notice a difference with spices and garlic etc

think they could be easily confused as there is tomatoes in lots of curries and garlicey foods, but when I have garlic in tomato free meals its fine

Salbysea - that may have been the case for you - the fruit and veg, but doesnt mean it will affect other peoples babies.

never said it would I only know what affects my baby but my experiences may be of interest to the OP no?
