Hello! dd2 is 8 weeks, she was 8lb 13 when born and is approx 14lb so big baby for her age. She feeds every 2-3 hours, mainly 2 hourly in the day takes between 2 and 4 ozs. She manages to go longer during the night thank goodness, last feed at 10 pm and goes till about 2-3 pm and then wakes at about 5-6am. She is on Aptamil formula. Anyone tried the hungry baby food? Does it make them constipated? Does it work? Would love to hear your suggestions

the feeding pattern you describe is normal for a bf baby.

Hiya. Ds was 8lb 13 as well and I'm pretty sure he was feeding this regularly at that age. As she gets a bit bigger she will start to take more at each feed, personally I would just go with it for now, you're effectively only having to do one night feed which is for 8 weeks!

2 and 4 oz doesn't sound enough to me, unless aptamil is very different to cow and gate. My 6 week old 9lb2 baby has just drunk 6oz. Before hungry baby I would try bigger feeds, then she should go longer.

My lo also feeds a lot during the day and then less at night.

And she is 9lb2 now - 6lb15 at birth. She probably feeds every 3 hours on average during the day - sometimes 2 1/2 and sometimes 4 it depends really.

no, not hungry baby milk.. she is not a hungry baby, she is a normal baby

she is taking small feeds, for hungry baby milk, i would expect a baby to be downing full 9 oz bottles and not being satisfied

she is also only waking in the night once, so clearaly not massively hungry

if she is finishing her four ounces, offer 5

I'd give more milk at each feed, rather than use the hungry stuff.

I think ds2 (an enthusiastic eater) took 6oz plus per feed at that stage.

2-4oz is a small amount for an 8 week old baby. Can you encourage her to take a bit more at feeds to splace them out? If not, the amounts she is taking in total is normal. No need for hungry milk.

brettgirl2 · 29/05/2009 19:29

I would like to add that my dd doesn't always take that amount lol. But 4oz is a minimum.

Offer more milk.

She is going through a growth spurt, they seem to have them every few weeks.

At this age their stomachs are about the same size as their fist, so they need to feed little and often.

Hungry baby milk is heavier, but isnt nutrionally better, it would probably lead to constipation, and cause more problems than it would fix.

You could try switching to a different formula see if it makes any difference

Thanks everyone, i am giving her 5oz bottles and occasionnaly she will have the full 5 ozs. In total she is having the correct amount of milk for her age and weight on a daily basis. She is happy and content, so i will go with the flow. Sounds like the hungry baby milk may upset her.
She has a fussy period around 6-7 pm ish but this is normal isnt it? DD1 was like this she was fussy in the evening before bedtime. When does this fussy period stop? Thanks for the advice mumsnetters
