15 1/2 month dd2 is feeding constantly and it is doing my head in, any thoughts?

She is feeding, I think about as often as a newborn.

She doesn't seem hugely interested in food. She is very independent and insists on feeding herself, but I think this means she doesn't eat as much as she might. Anyway, even if I do (healthy) finger foods she doens't eat that much (as in really not much), she is still interested mainly in playing with the food.

Is this what they do? I honestly can't remember what my other kids were like at this age.

She is really different to my older two (also both bf at this age), and I'm not sure how to handle it. They both liked food (still do). She just likes milk, really. I don't mind this per se except that I have 3 kids 5 and under and need to do things other than feed dd2.

Any thoughts?

Oh and is that mothering your nursing toddler book any good? I need solid ideas though, not just smugness-she is so different to the others!

Hi Filly

Ds2 is like this, too. He's 2 next month and still wants milk over everything...come to think of it ds1 barely ate food until he was almost 3, but he had 'bockle' and 'molk' rather than my boobs after 16m.

It is so tiring isn't it? I have now started resorting to that thing where you are dangling over their mouth waiting till they unlatch and you can abstract your nipple without waking them, gahhhhhhhh

Sorry not much help!!

no advice i'm in the same boat with my ds 15 months, all bloody night aswell.

why have our children reverted? I am clueless. Does yours take any kind of comforter? Dummy, bottle of water etc...I must admit I've tried to get him hooked on anything but my breasts. With no success.

NationalFlight · 24/05/2009 18:54

Mind you tis far far worse when a toothy is pending...like the sword of damocles

In between teeth he is not quite so bad.

Fillyjonk · 24/05/2009 19:02

I have never ever managed to get my kids hooked on dummies or anything.

I pretend this is because I am a smug parent who shuns such things.

The truth is that for each child dp has done at least one 3am trip to all-night-tescos to buy a dummy, which they then spurned.

I once even put apple juice on a dummy for ds, at about 4 in the morning. He licked it off, nodded, and asked for milk

no, tried them all. he won't use a dummy for comfort but if he sees another baby with one he screams and grabs it from them but just wants to hold it!
