Weaning 12 month old off the breast.

Hello I have a 12 month old son who has a dairy intolerance and is still breastfed ( 3 times per day). I would like to wean him off the breast over the next few months. I have just discovered he can take goats milk. However, he has never taken to drinking from a bottle and only takes the smallest sips from a sippy cup and open cup. I have tried to get him to take a cup with a straw but he just chews the end and doesn't drink from it! I am concerned about his lack of fluid intake if I stop breastfeeding. Any advice is very welcome.

Maybe he will take more from a cup when he realises you won't offer him the breast instead?
When i have weaned mine at 12 months i have dropped one feed per week which always seems to have worked well.
So, at 12 months they were having 4 breastfeeds a day.
Week one of weaning i would give 3 breastfeeds and one cows milk.
Week two, 2 breastfeeds and 2 cows milk.
Week three, 1 breastfeed and 3 cows milk.
Then from week four, fully on cows milk.
Good luck!

Thank you for your advice- hopefully he will take more once I reduce the amount he is breastfeeding. I work two days per week so on those days he only gets two feeds anyway. Ooh it's a worry isn't it but from the other messages I have read I am not alone!!
