I expressed at work for over a year with ds2 and I am sure I would simply rinse the hand expresser with hot water between expressings - have I misrememberd thos?

If it's going in a fridge in between - yes, if it's not, you'd need to use washing-up liquid or similar.

it is going in a cool bag with an ice pack....

I can take washing up liquid.

Is it definitely ok not to sterilise in between?

I was the expressing queen but have totally forgotten!!!

Nope no need to ever sterilise, esp at that age!
