Just how thirsty should breastfeeding make me?

DD is 29 weeks, exclusively BF and we are doing BLW.

BF has always made me thirsty, but recently I am wondering just how thirsty I should be??

My record the other day was 9 pints of water plus a few cups of tea. That was a record but I must get through 6 pints a day plus a few teas on a normal day. I was never this thirsty before!

Now does this sound within the realms of normal? MIL suggested today it wasn't and I should go and be tested for diabeties.

What do you think?? Don't know anyone still bbf in RL to ask.

I'm BF my 26 week old, and starting BLW although I onky just heard about it.

BF does make me v thirsty, but not this much - you must have fantastic skin by now, all the water! I must admit, I tend to reach for the strawberry Nesquick myself .

In all sriosness, seems like a lot - it might be worth checking your blood sugar levels? I woud have a word with the hv too.

Sorry about poor typing. have wriggly child on my lap

I was extremely thirsty. I don't remember when it got a bit less, but even still I am pretty thirsty and ds is probably not taking much milk (he is 3.6yo and feeds maybe 3 times in 24hrs)

I used to take a litre of water to bed for overnight and drink a pint at almost every feed, so we are talking quite a lot of water!

The general guidelines are to drink to thirst, so if you are thirsty then drink.

If you are worried about it, I guess it wouldn't do any harm to get yourself checked out.

bf isn't meant to make you need extra food (or liquid). but i found something to do with let down made me have a very dry mouth and insatiable thirst - it did subside if i didn't have a drink right by my side.

i have always drunk a lot of water anyway.
