Breastfeeding and no weight gain in last week

This really follows on from previous threads where asking for advice on sore/prickly feeling breasts and feeling lack of milk (although quite often felt lack of milk and DS then gained 7-9oz in weight so tried to stop myself worrying!) and another about fact that DS only doing poo every 5-6 days. Took DS for baby clinic today and he had not gained any weight this week. Has been gaining between 4 and 9 oz each week until today. Only thing I can think is that he had his mega poo(after 6 days) before being weighed today where as last week he had his mega poo(after 5 days) after he was weighed. Or is it that I was right and not making enough milk, or is it normal for them to not gain sometimes?
Many Thanks for any thoughts

How old is he?

Warwickmum · 29/04/2009 14:39

Oh yes sorry, he was 12 weeks old last sunday. Its just one of the health visitors didn't seem worried but the other one did!!

The not pooing very often is not a problem unless its hard when it arrives. Very common in bf babies.

Healthy babies don't need to be weighed every week, it causes stress as you've found!

I think you're probably right about being weighed after a poo.

Sounds like you're doing fine to me.

Oh and also forgot to say that he was 14lb 5oz this week and last week

Thanks 'wastingmyeducation' - I will definitely try to stop worry about this feared lack of milk, although I must admit it is slightly driving me to distraction and driving my other half mad!

Honestly, if you stop getting him weighed you'll worry less! I certainly did.

I agree - weekly is too stressful!! Sounds like a good weight for his age so I would not worry too much if I were you. Remember thatthere is often a growth spurt at 12 weeks and they can get longer at the expense of getting heavier...I have dropped my weekly visits to clinic cos this happemed to me, regular weight gain followed by one week with only 1oz and the HV made me paranoid about it. If he looks healthy and the nappies are wet at least he is probably okay. I have heard of other ones who poo very infrequently too.
