My baby is beating up my boob! Is this normal?

My DD is 2.5 weeks old and struggles to latch onto my right breast properly. She eventually does but after a 'routine' in which she plays with my nipple in her mouth, hits it with her fists, doesn't even attempt to latch-on or suckle, cries until she's completely frustrated and then launches herself to my breast like its never been there before. Oww, my breast really hurts as a result. This happens every time I feed on this side and can take up to 15 mintues.

I've had my MW, HV and other professionals tell me my positioning isn't a problem however I'm wanting to know if this behaviour will eventually stop. She isn't like this with my left breast. While I have lots of patience at the moment, I can't see myself still having to do this when she's older and I'm wanting to go out and about and BF in public. Help!

ps. this is my first time posting and I'm a first time mum- any advice is helpful!!!

My Dd1 fought my breast ( she was v.ill in SCBU) and I used to swaddle her gently so she couldn't get her arms out,and latch her on. Once the milk was flowing she would relax.

Am no expert though. Sure someone will be along to help further

Durtyyurty - have you explored options like biological nurturing positions and self-attachment? Have you tried speaking to someone on a bf helpline?

Hope either or both of these ideas help, if not.
