DS (7 months) is feeding still every 1-3 hours

DS has never settled down with his feeds, and never lasts more than maybe an hour or so (only once or twice though a day) and max of 6 hours once a night , and from mid afternoon feeds constantly on/off (20 odd mins off) until we go to bed about 11 ish. I don't mind as such, just want to know if it's normal. He is having solids but not alot (BLW) He is a big boy (born 10lb 5oz and in 6-9/9-12m clothes).

I think this is not uncommon. My DS was very similar. In fact he still feeds very frequently (but only for about a minute at a time) at 16 months.
You may be relieved to hear that he is quite settled in the evenings now, and goes to bed at 7:30ish (usually) and sometimes we get whole evenings to ourselves! He still feeds a few times a night though, but we are co-sleeping so I think that's par for the course.

Do you listen to other Mums in bafflement as they describe putting their baby down at 7ish and sometimes even having to wake them up for a 'dreamfeed'?
That was never my experience and I couldn't really understand what they were on about. 'You mean he sleeps??!! ... in the evening???

Join the club. My ds is 9 months old and goes through periods of the same. He has only ever slept through one night. He is off the scale for height but has dropped to just over the 25th centile for weight, from the 91st, but is extremely active so it's no surprise. I think the latest bout of constant feeding is down to teething, so it could be that? If it's not bothering you I'd say not to worry, though my HV was horrified when she asked how many milk feeds he was having a day

I am chuffed my 3 yr old has started to goto bed better at 7pm I can understand the co-sleeping snacks- not sure I could sleep and not snack if there was mars bars right there . But geez, I was at a friends yesterday from 2pm-11pm and even when I nipped to the loo he cried and only was off my lap for about 10 mins total. DS1 was a constant feeder but I am sure it wasn't this much at gone 7 months...

LadyofWaffle, at 7 months my dd really was sleeping through the night and we did nothing differently with her, I think some babies are just like this. I am hoping that there will be a nice leveling out in the near future and that ds completely bypasses the terrible twos

LadyOfWaffle · 29/03/2009 20:45

He is teething - 3rd tooth came through yesterday! I daren't count his feeds per day , if I counted each one as a feed if the gap is more than 10 mins I am sure it would be 20+ a day...
